Course overview
Course description
Delve deeper and study plays to be performed in the local area. We are waiting for most theatres to publish their autumn programmes, but are likely to include Sandi Toksvig鈥檚 Bully Boy at the Lace Market Theatre, Nottingham and Lorraine Hansberry鈥檚 A Raisin in the Sun at Derby Theatre. Bully Boy is not perhaps what you would expect from Toksvig and deals with an investigation into the behaviour of a young soldier in a 鈥渂ully boy鈥 unit and the effect on soldiers鈥 mental health. Raisin in the Sun has become a modern American classic, and is the story of a young black family in Chicago in the fifties. It was made into a film starring Sydney Poitier. The third play to be studied will be Art by Yasmina Reza which will be showing at the Theatre Royal and also Sheffield Lyceum. We will use the different productions as a basis for discussion and analysis
