Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you鈥檙e not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.

Course description
This course will help you to communicate clearly and confidently in a wide range of social and formal situations, taking into account the audience, purpose and situation. You will develop skills to predict the meaning of a text by using vocabulary, grammatical features and indirect cues as well as recognising tone, opinion and bias in texts.
You will summarise information from longer documents and discuss why this is an important skill. You will write for a wide range of everyday and formal situations. Use strategies and prior knowledge to spell the majority of common and unfamiliar words accurately. Select the appropriate format, style and level of detail required for a range of writing purposes, e.g. note making, summarising a document, writing a formal letter. Make requests and ask questions to obtain information in familiar and unfamiliar contexts.
Take part in a range of formal and informal topical discussions: explain my personal views clearly, listen and respond appropriately. Use grammatical knowledge and personal experience to identify the purpose and meaning of a range of pieces of writing.
What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).
