Course overview
Course description
As the dark nights draw in we explore five films which fit under the banner of haunting and/or the supernatural, not strictly horror but enough to make the viewer think twice before turning out the light. We examine what common features these films have, what techniques do they use, do they offer the same predictable and generic frights or do they each posses something that genuinely has the power to unnerve us whilst also saying something about the human psyche and the time in which they were produced. We examine some key examples along with a creepy curio or two perhaps forgotten in the attic, providing knowledge and enthusiasm both of the subject area and for cinema in general.
