Course description
Shipwrecks around East Anglia – Discover the commercial importance of the waters around the east coast of England and find out about the hidden history revealed by shipwrecks around the East Anglian Coast. The Maunsell Forts – Find out about these army and navy forts built in the second world war offshore in the North Sea to protect us from enemy air force and navy incursions. This session looks at the unique history and the mixed cast of characters involved with these platforms. The session examines what is left of them and the unique legacy which they have left behind. From Tierra Del Fuego to Essex – When Darwin travelled to South America on his voyages on the HMS Beagle, he was accompanied by 3 natives of Tierra del Fuego who had been picked up by Captain Robert Fitzroy and brought back to Essex. This session will examine the history of the trip of Beagle and the attempts to convert and civilise the Fuegian people.
